During the 11 years that she has lived in her house, a homeowner in Apopka, FL, has noticed some problems were getting worse on her property. The driveway and sidewalk in front of her home had several areas of cracking, settling, and uneven concrete.
It is not uncommon for concrete to sink over time. The soil underneath the heavy concrete can give way to the weight of the slabs, and it can wash out. Without anything underneath to support it, the concrete will settle and result in cracks and noticeable gaps between the slabs. These are unsightly tripping hazards for everyone.
The homeowner wanted to address this problem right away before any serious damage or injury resulted. She contacted Florida Foundation Authority after seeing our TV ads, and she met with one of our inspectors. The inspector completed a thorough evaluation of the property, identified what unsafe areas needed to be corrected, and he presented the owner with the perfect repair solution.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Mike McDonald, then used the PolyRenewal System to lift, level and stabilize the concrete.
Small, penny-sized holes were first drilled into the sinking slabs, then injection ports were placed in these holes. Special equipment was used to inject high-density polyurethane foam underneath the slabs. This material expands to fill the voids, and this allows for the precise lifting and leveling of the slabs.
PolyRenewal is lightweight, but high-capacity and waterproof. It will not wash out underneath the slabs, and it has a quick cure time. Concrete that has been leveled with PolyRenewal can be driven on or walked on just 15 minutes after it is installed.
Joint sealant also was applied to the joints and any cracks to further protect the newly repaired concrete.
The homeowner was excited this reliable, state-of-the-art project was completed on the property so she will have a safer living environment.
