Swimming pools are excellent places to find relief from the heat, kick back and unwind, get some exercise, and enjoy time with children, family and friends. Not only is water safety important, it also is crucial to have a safe area surrounding the pool.
Homeowners in Stuart, FL, have enjoyed their house and pool for several years. Recently, they have noticed issues with the pool deck such as areas of cracking and sinking concrete. Several areas of concrete surrounding the pool were settling and out of level, creating unsightly tripping hazards.
It is not uncommon for concrete pool decks to settle over time. This can happen during the pool construction process when the backfilled soil added around the pool excavation is not as dense as stable, virgin soil farther away from the pool. Then when concrete is poured around the pool, unstable soil often compresses under the slab’s weight, leading to sinking or settling of the concrete.
Having a safe outdoor environment for entertainment is very important to the homeowners, and they wanted to address these issues before they worsened. They contacted Florida Foundation Authority after learning about our company and our concrete leveling services online. Inspector Alex Graves then completed a thorough evaluation of the problematic pool deck, and he presented the homeowners with the perfect solution.
Foreman Mike McDonald and his crew then used the unique PolyRenewal System to lift, level and stabilize the concrete. This involved first drilling small holes into the sinking slabs, then placing injection ports in the holes. Special equipment was used to inject high-density polyurethane underneath the concrete.
This material expands into rigid, structural foam to fill the voids, and this allows for the precise lifting and leveling of the slabs. PolyRenewal is lightweight yet durable and high-capacity. It will not wash out, and it can handle weight and traffic just 15 minutes after installation because of its quick cure time. The newly repaired concrete also was further protected by the application of joint sealant to the cracks and joints.
Another advantage of the PolyRenewal System is its noninvasive installation. There is minimal disturbance to the concrete as opposed to old fashioned repair methods. Some contractors use heavy equipment to demolish the problematic concrete sections and pour a new concrete deck that takes time to harden and cure. This process can also damage the yard and render the pool useless until the concrete has cured.
The homeowners were excited to have the state-of-the-art PolyRenewal System installed to enhance the safety of their home.
