Since moving into their house several years ago, homeowners in Oviedo, FL, have been monitoring an exterior safety issue. They noticed several areas of cracking, sinking concrete around their swimming pool deck were getting worse.
It is common for concrete pool decks to settle over time. This can happen because of the pool construction process. Backfilled soil added around the pool excavation is not as dense as the more stable soil farther away from the pool. When concrete is poured around the pool, this unstable soil often compresses under the concrete slabs’ weight. This then results in sinking or settling of the concrete.
When the concrete settles there is a lack of a proper support system underneath it. Along with unlevel concrete and a diminished appearance, this also results in tripping hazards.
The homeowners were concerned about the safety, as well as the appearance, of the concrete pool deck, so they began to research repair options and companies. They contacted Florida Foundation Authority after learning more about our company online. Inspector Joseph Grimsley then completed a thorough evaluation of the problematic pool deck, and he presented the homeowners with the perfect solution.
Per Joseph’s recommendations, one of our expert concrete lifting and leveling crews, led by Foreman Joshua Ortiz, used the state of the art PolyRenewal System to lift, level and stabilize the concrete.
Very small holes were first drilled into the sinking concrete slabs, and injection ports were then placed in these holes. Special equipment was then used to inject high-density polyurethane foam underneath the concrete. This material expands to fill the voids, and this allows for the exact lifting and leveling of the slabs.
PolyRenewal is lightweight, but very durable, and will never wash away from underneath the concrete. It also has a quick cure time, and the concrete can handle normal traffic just 15 minutes after a PolyRenewal installation. Joint sealant also was applied to the cracks and joints to further protect the newly leveled concrete.
The homeowners were pleased this unique repair method was used to help them enhance their pool’s appearance and ensure its safety.
