Tenants in Deltona, FL, have been keeping an eye on problems outside their home, and they recently notified the property owners of the worsening condition. The concrete pool deck had several areas with cracks, as well as settling and uneven slabs. This resulted in unsightly tripping hazards, which are even more dangerous around a swimming pool.
It is common for any concrete, including pool decks, to settle over time. This can happen during the pool construction process when the backfilled soil added around the pool excavation is not as dense as stable, virgin soil farther away from the pool. Then when concrete is poured around the pool, unstable soil often compresses under the slab’s weight, leading to sinking or settling of the concrete.
Hoping to eliminate the cracking and settling for good, the homeowners began to research how to best address these issues. They were eager to contact Florida Foundation Authority after seeing our TV ads. The owners then met with Inspector Alex Graves who completed a thorough evaluation of the pool deck. Alex then presented the owners with the perfect repair solution.
Foreman Mike McDonald and his crew then installed the PolyRenewal System to lift, level, and stabilize the problematic concrete around the pool.
This involved first drilling very small, minimally invasive holes into the settling concrete slabs. High-density polyurethane foam was then injected underneath the concrete through these holes by using special equipment. The material expands to fill any voids, and this allows for the precise lifting and leveling of the concrete slabs. The joints and any cracks also were repaired with Joint Sealant.
PolyRenewal is lightweight, but also very durable. It will not wash out from under the concrete, and the areas where it was installed can handle weight and normal traffic just 15 minutes after installation because of its quick cure time.
The homeowners and tenants were pleased this unique and reliable repair solution was used to help them create a safe living environment.
