After living in his house for a couple of years, a homeowner in Tavares, FL, started to grow concerned with the safety of his home. He noticed several areas of the concrete sidewalk and driveway were settling and uneven.
Concrete commonly fails over time, typically due to sinking soil underneath. The soil can wash out or give way to the weight of the concrete, leaving a lack of support system and causing the concrete to sink as well. This also leaves unsightly and unsafe gaps between the concrete slabs that present tripping hazards.
These factors greatly concerned the homeowner, so he began to research how to best address the problem. After finding Florida Foundation Authority’s website, the owner was eager to contact us for further guidance. He met with Inspector Joe Travis who completed a thorough evaluation of the sinking concrete. Joe then recommended our state-of-the-art concrete lifting and leveling system.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Mike McDonald, then used the PolyRenewal System to lift, level and stabilize the problematic concrete.
This involved first drilling very small holes into the sinking slabs. Injection ports were then placed in these holes, and special equipment was used to inject high-density polyurethane foam underneath the slabs. This material expands to fill the voids, and this allows for the exact lifting and leveling of the slabs.
While PolyRenewal is lightweight, it is extremely durable. It will not wash out, and its quick cure time allows for normal traffic to resume just 15 minutes after installation.
The homeowner is happy this unique repair solution was used on his property to create a safer living environment.
