A longtime homeowner in Casselberry, FL, started to notice some problems outside her home. Several sections of concrete along her driveway and sidewalk were cracking, settling and uneven.
Concrete can fail by cracking and settling for numerous reasons, but the cause typically is sinking soil underneath the concrete. The soil can erode and wash away or simply give way to the weight of the heavy concrete. When this happens, there is no support system for the concrete, and it will follow suit by settling as well.
Any cracking and significant gaps between concrete slabs affects the appearance of the property, as well as its safety. These uneven slabs are dangerous tripping hazards.
The owner wanted to have these issues fixed once and for all, so she began to research repair options. She was eager to contact Florida Foundation Authority after finding information about our company through online resources like Home Advisor. Inspector Joe Travis then visited to evaluate the condition of the concrete. Joe recommended a unique, state-of-the-art repair solution we could use to help her.
One of our crews, led by Foreman Joshua Ortiz, then used the PolyRenewal System to lift, level and stabilize the problematic concrete.
First, very small, penny-sized holes are drilled into the concrete slabs. Injection ports are then placed in these holes, and special equipment is used to inject high-density polyurethane underneath the concrete. The material expands to fill any voids, and this allows the concrete to be precisely lifted, leveled and stabilized. The holes that were drilled into the slabs are then filled and grouted.
Joint sealant also was used to fill the joints and any cracks to further protect the newly repaired concrete.
PolyRenewal is lightweight, but very durable. It will not wash out from under the concrete, and its quick cure time allows traffic and normal weight on the concrete to resume just 15 minutes after installation.
The homeowner is pleased this reliable solution was used to help her create a safer living environment.
