After her husband passed away, a longtime homeowner in Deland, FL, began to take control of various responsibilities. On a broad scale, she wanted to address the health of her home. And she wanted to start from the ground up.
She knew of the crawl space under the house, but this was an area she never ventured into. She thought it best for an expert professional to do so. During her research, the homeowner came across information on Porch.com about Florida Foundation Authority, and she wanted to give us a call.
She then met with one of our inspectors who evaluated the condition of the crawl space. He pointed out that the vented crawl space was not properly sealed or insulated, and it was full of debris. It also could invite outside water and pests inside to cause additional issues that would impact the home above. Our inspector then presented the owner with some of our reliable solutions that would transform the crawl space.
One of our crews first removed the failing plastic floor liner and any debris from the crawl space, and they began the repairs by first sealing off the crawl space from the outside. Several vent covers were placed on the home’s exterior to prevent outside air, water and pests from entering the crawl space.
ExTremeBloc insulation panels were then placed on the walls, and spray foam was applied to the band joists for additional insulation.
Thick drainage matting was then placed on the crawl space floor to enhance the strength and durability of the encapsulation material. The crawl space was then encapsulated in CrawlSeal liner. This thick and durable liner, similar to swimming pool liner, completely seals the crawl space to isolate it from the earth. It acts as a moisture and vapor barrier, and it also helps insulate the crawl space.
All of these solutions work together to improve the health, safety, appearance, and functionality of the crawl space, thus giving the homeowner peace of mind.
