Everyone deserves to grow up and grow old in a safe and healthy home. Identifying and eliminating all possible hazards is not realistic, but it is crucial for homeowners to make every effort possible to protect their families and their living environments.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has declared June National Healthy Homes Month. This is an outreach campaign designed to encourage and assist homeowners in addressing potential dangers in their home, both visible and unseen. Check out this press release for more information about National Healthy Homes Month.
Every year, we at Florida Authority help hundreds of homeowners create healthier and safer living environments by providing the very best concrete lifting and leveling, crawl space repair, foundation repair, exterior drainage, and even basement waterproofing solutions.
Join us in celebrating National Healthy Homes Month by showing your house some love with our reliable repairs in various areas!
Remove Trip Hazards
One thing HUD encourages homeowners to do is remove trip hazards around the home, including carefully using stools and ladders and installing railing and grab bars for older adults.
Our team at Florida Foundation Authority tackles this in a different way by helping lift, level and stabilize concrete around your property. We use the unique PolyRenewal system to repair cracking and settling concrete on driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, patios, and even inside your house.
A Safe and Sturdy Home
One of the eight Principles of a healthy home highlighted by HUD is keeping your home safe. This includes ensuring the structural stability the house. Any wall cracking and inward bowing that is visible on a wall, as well as soft and bouncy floors, indicates foundation failure. Even if you notice the smallest cracks, it is important to address those before they worsen and threaten your home’s safety or result in lengthy, costly repair projects.
We have many sturdy foundation repair solutions that can help you fix and protect problematic foundation walls and soft floors. Our inspectors can assess the condition of your home and help you determine which solution would be best suited for your home based on the severity of the problem and your budget.
A Pest-Free Home
HUD lists “keep your home pest-free” as another healthy home Principle. Pests like mice and bugs are unsightly, unhealthy creatures that can wreak havoc on your sanity and your health. While we are not exterminators, we can help you properly seal off an area underneath your house so you won’t have to worry about these unwanted inhabitants.
Vented crawl spaces under homes are common, but this building practice endangers a home’s health. Open vents essentially are welcome signs inviting nuisances into your house. We can seal your crawl space from these outside invaders by encapsulating it in thick and durable CrawlSeal liner. We also can add exterior vent covers for further protection.
A Contaminant-Free Home
The quality of the indoor air your family is breathing every day also needs to be a priority. We can install a top-performing dehumidifier that will clean and filter the air, control moisture and humidity, and reduce odors and the potential for mold growth.
A Dry Home
HUD lists “keep your home dry” as another healthy home Principle. A dry house has less chance of developing mold and mildew, and if you have a basement, you can safely store your belongings there without worrying about them being damaged by seeping water.
If you’re worried about water management on your property, we can upgrade your exterior drainage system with new downspout conductor lines and/or French drains to better direct water away from your home.
Basements are rare in Florida, but we have helped homeowners with these below-grade rooms. If you’re worried about water intrusion and damage in your basement, we can install the BasementGutter interior drainage system in the sub-floor to catch any seeping water and direct it to one of our reliable sump pump systems.
